Ait Benhaddou is a fortress made of a group of Kasbahs, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage listing since 1987 and home of about 8 families who are still living in the old part of the Ksar. The new section is home to many cafés, restaurants & hotels. Traveling from Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou is a 4h drive along a windy road across the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2260 m) to the highlands of the Berber villages with houses made from mud and straw. Ait Benhaddou as a fortified village is considered a natural decor / set for many movies which were shot in the area. Depends on the hunger level, you either have lunch first or take a guided walk of the ancient settlement, cross the dry river to get to top hill with your English-speaking driver or local guide for the magnificent views and to dominate the Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou, you will learn about the Berbers, the remarkable land of contrasts of the Saharan landscapes, the history, and the architecture (Kasbahs & Ksours) and the era of French protectorate with its influence on southern parts of Morocco. In the afternoon, you return to Marrakech via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. You will get dropped off at your accommodation around 7 PM.
